How I saved $6 by talking to a computer

Published by Chip under finance

I don’t like MBNA (now Bank of America’s) online banking system.  Today I got a bill in the mail due April 24, even though I haven’t had a balance on my card since March 14.

The bill was for $6.08 in finance charges. So I called, curious for an explanation since I paid my bill in full last month. I didn’t even get to talk to a representative. Their computer seemed to know why I was calling, and waived the finance charges. Weird.

But, it only took 4 minutes. Let’s see, 2040*60 = 122,440 Minutes in an average work year. 122,400 *(6.08/4) = $186,048.  So basicall, if I could make $1.52 a minute, I’d be in good shape. Maybe I should try to get a corporate law job. . .
