I need your support!

Published by Chip under Verbose

I’m helping a friend train for the upcoming Avon Breast Cancer Walk, and I want to throw out some link-love to her in hopes of generating a few extra dollars in funds.

Make sure to post a comment and let me know if you decide to contribute. She’ll like to know where it’s all coming from, I’m sure.

Directions for getting to my Great Aunt’s wake:

Published by Chip under Verbose

“Take the main road to the sign that says “Woodshed,” make a right at that sign. The funeral home is down the way.”

It makes sense, being that this will be in rural Wisconsin. But it was good for a laugh this morning on an otherwise dreary day.

In one sense, this is antithetical to American values. If they were truly able to generate 25 BILLION in revenues from coca, I’d say it’s time to build and regulate an industry around this narcotic - isn’t that the American way?

Loss in the family

Published by Chip under Verbose

Just a quick note to let anyone reading this know that my grandmother’s sister Helen passed away this evening. I’m not sure how old she was - I think in her late 70’s. She apparently had a heart attack or an embolism, they haven’t figured it out exactly yet. The family is in shock - we just saw Helen a few weeks ago at my Grandparent’s 69th wedding annversary, and she was her usual happy, energetic self. Although I can’t say we were particularly “close” in terms of time spent together, I certainly felt a strong bond to her and will feel the loss. I’m not sure what else there is to say. I know that God will welcome her into his arms, now, though.

A wonderful night

Published by Chip under Verbose

Earlier this evening, while at the gym, I felt the beginning of an allergic reaciton coming on. I have some severe and, in many respects, out of the blue, food allergies. As such, I’m very careful with what I ingest. Sometimes, things sneak up on me though. This is the second night in a row, and I’m not sure what I’m reacting too. Hopefully it will pass.

After a truncated workout, I went to the grocery store, came home, put some laundry in, and began reading. The current book is “Dreams from My Father” by the honorable Senator Barack Obama. He’s about the closest thing I have to a political hero these days, and even that is a bit of a stretch considering he isn’t doing much that I can see right now. After about an hour of reading, I drifted off slightly - until my laundry was done drying. It’s out of the dryer, and in a few minutes, I’ll be tucked in to bed like a good boy. Early! And that, in my opinion, is a wonderful night. Discounting all of the allergy stuff anyway.

Too busy to post?

Published by Chip under Verbose

You might have noticed I haven’t had much time to post lately. I’ve been busy adventuring with out of town guests and keeping busy at work. Just a quick update regarding work - the rumors are starting to fly about a possible buyout. This would be hugely good news for everyone at my level (unless they do a MASSIVE restructuring) but probably bad for most people at our corporate head quarters. I don’t want to delve too much into it, perhaps when I’m no longer an employee I can speak more freely about work and the life I lead. Oh, for those interested, that’s less than 5 months away. I start law school exactly 5 months from today. Doesn’t seem like a lot….we’ll see.

V for Vandetta? Or NED for Not Enough Dots?

Published by Chip under Verbose

While I really enjoyed the message and the spirit of “V for Vandetta” - the plot itself seemed to carry too many loose connections. That is, there weren’t enough dots connected for me about the protagonist to really feel - or rather - understand his situation. I enjoyed the action in the movie, but I would have liked a more explicit explanation of how he came to be such a genius when it comes to planning and excecution.

Wednesday Props: To the maintenance guy?

Published by Chip under Verbose

My bedroom light went kaput recently. Just stopped working. I changed the bulbs, fiddled with the switch, nothing. One phone call to the maintenance man, and a few hours later I now have light in my bedroom. Fantastic job, Ron!
