my average in the only class that is returning grades right now:

Wow, I just realized something

Published by Chip under Verbose

I realized that the reason I had so much stress in my writing class these past few weeks is because it really forced me to re-evaluate my writing (for the first time in more than 3 years) and to overcome my bad habits.

But now that I’m in the process of re-wiring my brain, it feels really good.

It helps that my group project had the highest grade in our class. The two other people in my group kicked butt, and definitely contributed their 33%, so I can’t take credit for the assignment - but it still feels good to do well.

In case anyone is curious, the grade was: 3.75/6. Yeah, that’s 62.5%. Heh.

1 month

Published by Chip under Verbose

I don’t know how to phrase this, but I’ve “survived” 1-month in law school. It’s not so much that I have survived, but, I’ve “made it through”? I’m up-to-date on the syllabus, so I suppose that is good.

But I can tell that I need to do more work during the week (or work better?). Actually, i just need to “manage my time.” period. I’m letting distraction creep in because I want to procrastinate…ugh. but i’m still doing better than I ever have as a student before.

More later when i’m not supposed to be sleeping.

Woah, Stress?

Published by Chip under Verbose

So I’ll admit - Tuesday I finally felt “stress” for the first time as a law student. I’ll differentiate “stress” in this case from the general anxiousness or excited-ness of starting this new adventure and meeting all of my classmates, etc.

Why was I stressed? I don’t know. The proximate cause was a writing assignment that I was struggling with (and I wish I had another week to go over it, but, whatever) and in part I was struggling with my own procrastination from the week before (as a result of the below “WTF” post, among other things) and just a general feeling of “why don’t I have this stuff figured out yet!”

I don’t want to go in to it. I think it has passed for the time being, but it was a rough wake-up call. Here’s hoping I can schedule my studies more effectively and, to quote my mom, “stay on task” more effectively moving forward…

Priorities

Published by Chip under Verbose

One thing law school is teaching me, is that you have to prioritize based on the size of the reward for finishing the work. That is, in a class where you’ll be called on and grilled for 1h15min, you better come prepared. Or if you have an assignment worth 4 points, spend 4 times more time on it than an assignment worth 1 point (at a minimum).

In effect, put your eggs in the basket that will get you the greatest benefit, even if it doesn’t feel right at the time.

hmmmm

Published by Chip under Verbose

Interesting night out with some fellow law students. It turned out to be a mostly “undergrad” type of event. I don’t know, really, what to say. It’s different for me - since I don’t drink - so the appeal is in getting others to have some fun and be safe and happy. I think, on a given night, if I can keep most of the group happy, then I’m doing my job.

Hopfefully I’ll be able to bring out my girlfriend next time, since I think she would get along with these people, and also, because I think she would deflect the guys from hitting on me. Granted, I’m flattered by that, but still - it’s a bit awkward!

funniest thing to happen to me, was I asked a guy what another guys name was, and the guy totally gave me a fake name, and a fake nick name (”checkers”) so I asked “checkers” about the genesis of his nick, and he totally looked at me like “what the f***! You @$$hole!” ugh. Everyone got a good laugh out of it. Mostly at my expense. Heh. I’m super gullible. (they invited me to play poker, so at least the facade sells!)

Second funniest thing that happened to me, is, I met a girl from Yale, who played cello. Her friend was dancing with my fellow student, and she came over to get me to rescue her friend or something. Anyway, I was like “I have a girlfriend” and she got excited because she just got engaged. So were talking (Because we’re both “safe” from each others perspective) and she mentions that she went to yale, and I was all “I dated a girl who played cello from there…” heh. She’s like “really, me too! what’s her name?” and I was all “Ummm….i forgot…” because it was a lie. I went on 1 date with a girl from yale, and she played violin. That was awkward. If I’d been trying to pick her up, it wouldn’t have happeend, even if everyone was single. Further, this was a valuble lesson I should tell my friends - if you are going to make up a fib, at least make sure you have enough info to carry it through. Like, if you are going to claim that you are “Hungover” from the night before, make sure you know what it feels like to be hung over. That was my fib tonight for why I wasn’t drinking. :)

What if Bush really was assassinated? | the Daily Mail

I’m surprised they haven’t arrested whoever made this film and whoever wrote this article, for violating some secret directive. What’s that you say, they wouldn’t have jurisdiction over foreign citizens?

So? Since when does this government care about constitutionally guaranteed rights? Meh.
